Today we wait for the appointment tomorrow that tells us if the treatment has worked. There is a heavy weight in the wait!
Tomorrow’s news affects life from here on in. It affects our whole family. Today life is just slowly passing. I’m with Pete at Addenbrookes. He sleeps a lot and is physically exhausted from this treatment.
I keep thinking that this treatment…which the consultant has called our last chance at the moment as we have tried all other options and they haven’t worked…has cost one million pounds! What an extortionate amount of money. Yet Pete’s healing is priceless to us. There isn’t an amount or cap on his worth, it is priceless.
I’m reminded that Jesus has paid the price for us! We can be free and have eternal life. The price has already been paid!
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36, NIV)
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
Cancer has been a cost…and as I look at Pete now so weak and frail and tired…the cost seems huge. The only way to see beyond this is to literally say Jesus…I find myself just saying His name. There is absolutely nothing I can do but call on His name. He knows our pain and worry. He knows how heavy the waiting for tomorrow is. Jesus has already done it all. He has paid for us already.
I cannot imagine going through this without the knowing Jesus. My trust and my hope are in Him. I know I am not alone and I know wholeheartedly that:
“’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. ‘” (Jeremiah 29:11)
This week our dear Church family are praying, fasting, looking after our children, painting our house and mowing our lawn. We are overwhelmed and speechless. Dear friends have taken time away from work and family to be in Cambridge with Pete. The sacrifices and costs are huge, yet Jesus is at the centre of all of those acts of kindness and He is at the centre of this whole situation.
Tomorrow, we walk into that consultation room with Jesus holding us. The price is paid and we are free already.
